Italian Bridge

Italian Bridge, St. Petersburg, Russia

The original pedestrian bridge was built on this site, across the Griboedov Canal at the top of Italianskaya Ulitsa, in 1896. After several minor reconstructions, the bridge was completely rebuilt in 1955 to carry water pipes as well as pedestrians. Richly ornamented with Venetian lanterns and decorative cast iron railings, the bridge is popular with buskers, and as an excellent vantage point for photographing the Kazan Cathedral to the south, and the Church of the Saviour on the Spilled Blood to the north.
