Lower Swan Bridge
Crossing the Winter Channel between the Summer Gardens and the Field of Mars, this attractive stone bridge has had a troubled history due to structural weaknesses in the original design. Built in 1836 by Andrei Gotman, the arched single-span bridge consisted of a brick arch resting on granite-faced abutments. The arch had to be reconstructed twice, in 1880 and again in 1925, when it was replaced with reinforced concrete.
