If you're looking to try authentic Russian pastries and desserts, Volchek's bakeries, known individually by separate numbers, are an excellent one-stop shop for some traditional staple bakery items. Volchek's bakeries have a decently large assortment of breads, pastries, and dessert items. Some highlights from the Russian culinary tradition include the chocolate "potato" dessert and slices of pirogi - traditional Russian pies made with yeast-rasied dough which can be savory or sweet - with fillings like cabbage, mushrooms, or berries. Wash these down with a cup of coffee or tea or some mors, a juice-like drink from dried berries. The offerings at Volchek's bakeries go beyond the traditional Russian repertoire as well to feature macaroons, fruit cakes, cheesecakes, and other bakery and dessert items. Seating varies at different locations, but ordinarily at least a few tables are available. Still, most patrons choose to take their goodies to go.
