On a warm summer's evening, the terrace at Grad Petrov is just about the perfect place in St. Petersburg to relax with a beer. The views across the Neva River to the Admiralty, St. Isaac's Cathedral and the Winter Palace are practically unbeatable. It's extraordinary that this fairly small establishment is not habitually packed, but that is no reflection on the food and drink on offer.
Grad Petrov brew a lager, a dunkel and a hefe-weisse at their small on-site brewery, all of which are very drinkable. German sausages take pride of place on the menu, accompanied with potato and sauerkraut. There are also several very good meat entrees, although the quality is not entirely consistent across the menu. Nonetheless, it's hard to complain considering the very reasonable prices and the laid-back, friendly atmosphere inside and outside. In short, Grad Petrov is one of the best places for lunch or an evening drink when sightseeing on Vasilevsky Island.
