Like many restaurants in St. Petersburg, the two branches of Montana Saloon take a theme for inspiration and then milk it for all its worth. In this case, it's cowboys and the wild west, so the wait staff are dressed in chaps and stetsons, Westerns are shown on the big screens (interrupted occasionally for major sporting events), and there are regular performances by local bands making at fair stab at playing country.
It's cheesy and over-the-top, but mostly amusing, and fortunately the food is good enough to attract customers on its own. The menu centers round steaks, either imported from Australia or much cheaper local cuts, plus a variety of other grilled meats and some Tex-Mex snacks and salads. They also serve good local fish and do a fine burger. The range of draft beers and single-malt whiskeys is also above average for restaurants in St. Petersburg.
