Long established in cavernous premises on the ground floor of the Park Inn Pulkovskaya Hotel, Paulaner is a microbrewery and restaurant that serves the famous Bavarian lager and several other Paulaner beers, including seasonal variations, produced on site by a German master brewer.
Less noteworthy than the excellent beers, the food menu contains a variety of sausages, roast pork joints, and other Bavarian dishes, as well as more generic European hotel cuisine. Despite its size, the Pulkovskaya venue is surprisingly convivial and gets lively later in the evening, although the service, in-house band, and much of the clientele (provincial businessmen getting merry) are stuck in an early nineties time-warp. The Nevsky Prospekt site is bland in comparison, and inexplicably much more expensive.
