Stolle: Description

Stolle in St. Petersburg, Russia

This chain of traditionally styled cafes began operations on Vasilievsky Island in 2002, and there are now ten outlets in St. Petersburg, as well as branches in Moscow and 17 other Russian cities. The successful formula combines attractively designed outlets with interiors modeled on late-19th century fashions and a menu based around the great Russian pie. Fresh-baked pirogi with sweet and savoury fillings are served by the slice and available for delivery or takeout. Quality is not quite as high as when the chain first opened - and if you're not sold on pie there's little else on the menu - but Stolle remains a convenient, inexpensive and unusually civilized fast-food experience.
