St. Petersburg is a huge city, but despite its size it's remarkably easy to get around. However you arrive in St. Petersburg, travelling on to your hotel or other final destination will be simple with a little pre-planning, and should never take more than an hour.
The new Terminal 1 of Pulkovo Airport are located a short drive south of the city and, while there is still no rail link from the centre, getting from the airport into town by bus and metro is usually quick and painless.

St. Petersburg has four mainline railway stations serving inter-city and international trains. Two are historic buildings in the very centre of the city, while the others are a short metro ride from Nevsky Prospekt and the downtown area.

International bus services arrive in St. Petersburg at a wide variety of destinations, including the city's Central Bus Station. Fortunately, all stops are next to or very close to metro stations.

St. Petersburg's two passenger ports (for river and sea traffic) are both some distance from the city centre. If you're not arriving as part of a cruise, you'll need to plan your onward journey in advance.
