Local Sightseeing

The Aston Hotel is located on Vladimirsky Prospekt, very close to numerous visitor attractions, several of which are connected to the life and career of Fyodor Dostoevsky. One block south of the hotel, the Vladimir Church of the Icon of the Mother of God is one of St. Petersburg's most famous churches, completed in 1783. Its distinctive yellow-and-white five-domed roof and soaring bell tower dominate the skyline in the area.

It was the church that Dostoevsky attended with his family in his later years, when he lived across the road on Kuznechny Pereulok in what is now the Dostoevsky Memorial Museum. Very popular with visitors, this small museum recreates his living quarters and hosts a variety of cultural events.

Next to the museum, Kuznechny Market is one of St. Petersburg's main food markets, known for the quality of its fresh fruit, vegetables, and meat, and for its vibrant atmoshpere. It's housed in a beautiful neoclassical building dating from the 1920s.

Heading from the hotel onto Nevsky Prospekt, it is less than five minutes' walk to the Beloselskiy-Belozerskiy Palace, a fabulous pink neo-baroque edifice, and the famous Anichkov Bridge across the Fontanka River, with its striking decorative statues, the Horse Tamers.
