Nearest metro: Dostoevskaya, Vladimirskaya
The Golden Garden Hotel is located in the very heart of St. Petersburg, just a few steps from Nevsky Prospekt on one side, and the glorious 18th century Church of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God on the other. Fyodor Dostoevsky, after whom the Golden Garden's main restaurant is named, at various times rented apartments in two of the neighboring buildings, and the surrounding area is richly described in his works. The Golden Garden is in an excellent situation for public transport, with three metro stations - Vladimirskaya, Dostoyevskaya, and Mayakovskaya - just a short walk away. The hotel is also conveniently located for mainline stations: Both Moskovsky Station, which serves trains to the capital, and Vitebsky Station, which covers the Baltics and Belarus, are under 10 minutes' drive away.
Pulkovo International Airport is around 18km from the Golden Garden Hotel, and can be reached by car in 30-40 minutes.
Local Sightseeing
The Golden Garden Hotel is very conveniently located for sightseeing, with the vast majority of St. Petersburg's major visitor attractions including the Winter Palace, the Russian Museum, and St. Isaac's Cathedral all within comfortable walking distance. In the immediate vicinity of the hotel, the most notable landmark is the beautiful Church of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God. One of St. Petersburg's most important religious buildings, it was completed in 1783 after over twenty years of construction and several architects' input. Despite this, the building manages to blend baroque and neoclassical elements into an impressively harmonious whole, with a fine four-tiered belltower next to it.
Just around the corner from the Golden Garden Hotel on Nevsky Prospekt stands the Beloselskiy-Belozerskiy Palace, an extraordinary Rococo building that dates - surprisingly - from the late 19th century. The building now houses a variety of exhibitions, including a government-backed "museum of democracy". The palace stands next to Anchikov Bridge across the Fontanka River, with its famous equestrian sculptures. In the summer, this is one of the best places in the city to catch boats offering tours of St. Petersburg's rivers and canals.
