The Marriott Courtyard St. Petersburg Vasilievsky is situated on the bank of the Malay Neva River on Vasilevsky Island, the historic area that Peter the Great originally envisaged as the centre of his new city. The hotel is relatively convenient for sightseeing, while business travellers have a reasonably short trip to the Lenexpo Exhibition Centre at the opposite end of the island (around 15 minutes by car).Vasileostrovskaya Metro Station can be reached on foot in a little under ten minutes. From there it is only one stop to Gostiny Dvor, on Nevsky Prospekt in the very centre of St. Petersburg. It is a similar distance on foot to Sportivnaya, on the opposite side of the Malaya Neva River. On the purple line, Sportivnaya is only one stop north of Admiralteyskaya, the nearest metro station to the Hermitage and St. Isaac's Cathedral.
Local Sightseeing
For the young and reasonably fit, it is possible to walk from the Marriott Courtyard Vasilievsky to major visitor attractions such as the Winter Palace and the Hermitage Museum, the Spit of Vasilevskiy Island and the Rostral Columns, and the Peter and Paul Fortress, all of which are within 20 minutes on foot from the hotel.In the immediate vicinity of the hotel, the most interesting sites are just across Tuchkov Bridge on the Petrograd Side, where a complex of sports-related buildings includes the Petrovsky Stadium, home ground of FC Zenit, and the Yubileyniy Palace of Sport, an indoor ice-hockey and concert venue. Across the road from the latter, the Prince Vladimir Cathedral is a beautiful 18th century church that houses a number of interesting historic relics and treasures.
