The Regina Hotel is situated in the northern section of the Petrograd Side, the district of the city to the north of the Peter and Paul Fortress that was mostly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and has in recent years become one of the most expensive and fashionable parts of the city. The are has countless superb examples of Style Moderne (Art Nouveau) architecture, and Bolshoy Prospekt (under five minutes' walk from the Regina Hotel) is one of St. Petersburg's most exclusive shopping districts.The nearest metro station, Petrogradskaya, is under ten minutes' walk from the Regina Hotel. From there it is only two stops to Nevsky Prospekt Metro Station, the closest station to nearly all of St. Petersburg's most famous visitor attractions, including the Hermitage, the State Russian Musuem, Kazan and St. Isaac's Cathedrals, and the Church of Our Saviour on the Spilled Blood, not to mention Nevsky Prospekt itself.
Moskovsky Station is around 4km from the hotel, and can be reached by taxi in 15-30 minutes, depending on traffic. Journey time for Vitebsky Station is around the same, while Ladozhsky Station, in the eastern outskirts of the city, takes at least half an hour to reach by car. Pulkovo-2 International Airport is around 20km from the Regina Hotel, and guests should allow at least an hour for the drive, especially during the day. The domestic terminal, Pulkovo-1, is a further 2km out of the city.
Local Sightseeing
The immediate environs of the Regina Hotel contain little in the way of sights or visitor attractions. However, it is only one stop on the metro or a very pleasant 20-minute walk from the hotel to Gorkovskaya, which is situated in the Alexander Park, just behind the Peter and Paul Fortress and home to the Leningrad Zoo and St. Petersburg's Planetarium. Also nearby are the Artillery Museum, Peter the Great's Cabin, and the Cruiser Aurora.Heading north from the hotel, guests will quickly find themselves on Aptekarsky Island, which is the site of the city's Botanical Gardens and several other sights connected with the history of scientific and technological development in the city. Further north still, and very quickly by bus along Kamennoostrovsky Prospekt, is Kamenny Island, historically the closest suburban retreat for the city's rich and nobility. The island is delightful place to walk in the summer, with overgrown avenues and scores of beautiful villas covering all architectural styles of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
To the north east of the hotel there are two more islands that are well worth visiting. Traffic-free Yelagin Island, the least spoiled of the Kirov Islands, was once an Imperial residence, and is home to the charming neoclassical Yelagin Palace, as well as extensive woodland with boating lakes. Krestovsky Island, the largest of the three, is less appealing to foreign visitors. In the last two decades it has become probably the most exclusive residential area in the city, with dozens of 'elite' new developments alongside more popular entertainments such as an amusement park, the dolphinarium, and two major sports stadiums.
