The State Hermitage Museum Hotel is situated in downtown St. Petersburg, in a historic residential district to the south of Nevsky Prospekt with strong connections to the life and works of Fyodor Dostoevsky. The building housing the hotel is an example of the early 20th century Russian Neoclassical Revival, and was built in 1912 to house the Railway Club, later becoming a Soviet "Palace of Culture" for food industry workers. There are three metro stations within about seven minutes' walk of the Hermitage Hotel, making it easy to access any part of the city very quickly. Vitebsk Railway Station is less than ten minutes' walk from the hotel, while Moscow Station is also only five minutes' drive away. St. Petersburg's other mainline stations are slightly further afield, but not more than 20 minutes' drive.
Pulkovo Airport is a little under 20 kilometers from the hotel, and the drive to/from the airport should take 30-40 minutes in reasonable traffic conditions.
Local Sightseeing
The State Hermitage Museum Official Hotel is located just outside the main sightseeing area of downtown St. Petersburg, although the hotel does offer a complimentary minibus shuttle service to/from the doors of the State Hermitage Museum on Palace Square throughout the day, which takes around ten minutes. You can also buy tickets to the museum at reception, thus avoiding the risk of getting caught in queues, which in high season can take up to two hours. In the area immediately adjacent to the hotel, there are a few popular visitor attractions and landmarks, including the building of Vitebsk Station, which is an Art Nouveau masterpiece with most of its original interiors still intact. In the opposite direction from the hotel, just over five minutes' walk north will bring you to Vladimirskaya Ploshchad, site of the magnificent Cathedral of the Vladimir Icon. Opposite the cathedral in front of Vladimirskaya Metro Station stands a Monument to Fyodor Dostoevsky, and a few steps from there in the apartment where the great novelist spent his final years is the Dostoevsky Memorial Apartment Museum.
