St. Petersburg Photography Museums and Galleries
Not only did St. Petersburg witness the birth of photography in Russia, it also became the centre of the country's photographic industry in the early Soviet period, which led eventually to the production of the world-famous LOMO LC-A camera. Meanwhile, the St. Petersburg school produced some of Russia's finest photographers, and their works are celebrated in the city's photographic museums.
This modern museum on the Petrograd Side traces the history of photography through the 19th and 20th centuries, with a collection of images and equipment that comprehensively illustrates the different stages of technical innovation.
ROSFOTO is a centre of photography in St. Petersburg, and its constantly changing displays of Russian and international photography are accompanied with film screenings, lectures, and master classes with St. Petersburg's top photographers.
