This eight-hour tour is designed to provide a simple and satisfying introduction to the main sightseeing highlights of central St. Petersburg. This tour is suitable for all ages of visitor and is not particularly strenuous, yet gives an overview of all the city’s most famous sights and attractions, with an experienced and entertaining guide.
In one reasonably short day, groups of any size can enjoy a car or bus tour of all the main downtown landmarks in St. Petersburg, before stopping at the Peter and Paul Fortress, the original heart of the city. Then, after a break for lunch, the tour continues with a visit to the State Hermitage Museum, comprising both the collections in the Winter Palace and the enormously popular works of the impressionists and post-impressionists in the General Staff Building.

City bus tour and visit to Peter and Paul Fortress
This introductory tour takes visitors through the central streets and squares of St. Petersburg, including Nevsky Prospekt and the Neva River embankments, via landmarks including the Winter Palace, St. Isaac's Cathedral, the Bronze Horseman, and the Spit of Vasilevskiy Island. During the tour, your guide will provide an overview of St. Petersburg's three-century history, including its political, cultural and architectural development. Finally, the tour will stop for an inside visit to the Peter and Paul Fortress, to see the site of the founding of St. Petersburg and to explore the beautiful Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral, the first church in St. Petersburg and the final resting place of nearly all the Romanov rulers of Imperial Russia.

Tour of the State Hermitage Museum
The second half of the day is spent in the State Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg's most popular visitor attraction and one of the world's greatest repositories of art and cultural artifacts. Your guide will take you through the glorious state rooms of the Winter Palace and the highlights of the vast collection of pre-20th century European art, including works by Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rubens, Rembrandt, Caravaggio and Poussin, to name but a few, as well as relics of the Imperial family and Russian court life. The tour then crosses Palace Square to the General Staff Building, the new home of the Hermitage's much-loved collection of impressionist and post-impressionist painting, where visitors can enjoy masterpieces by Matisse, Gauguin, Renoir and Van Gogh. |
