German walking tours in St. Petersburg
The original German communities in St. Petersburg were located on Vasilevsky Island, in one of the city's oldest neighbourhoods, and around Millionaya Ulitsa, a few steps from Palace Square and the Winter Palace. Thus, the imprint of St. Petersburg's German community on the fabric of St. Petersburg can be seen on almost any street in the historic centre. Our two walking tours will take you through.
This comparatively short walk takes us through the area around Bolshoy Prospekt on Vasilevsky Island, which was home to a significant section of St. Petersburg's German migrant population for over two centuries.
Taking us on a circular route from Palace Square to the Summer Garden, this tour introduces us to the rich and varied architectural heritage bequeathed to St. Petersburg by its German population, including Imperial palaces and famous bridges.
